This is one of those books where it’s pretty complex and so I struggled at times to understand exactly what Hesse was talking about. That seems to happen quite often with his work.
The novel (or novella, to be more accurate) was pretty good, but I think what I enjoyed the most was that it had an introduction by Timothy Leary, the father of LSD. That was pretty interesting and it was also quite informative, helping me to make sense of the book as a whole.
