Deborah Alma – The Everyday Poet
This one is yet another of the poetry books that I won as part of a National Poetry Day competition, but I have to say that I was impressed by it. It’s a stunning little hardback with some fantastic poetry by everyone from William Wordsworth to Sylvia Plath. In fact, the whole idea here is to create a collection of poetry that you can read for inspiration in your everyday life. They’re poems to live by, and it lives up to that.
If I had to gripe, the only thing I’d say is that the section breaks are sometimes confusing because they’re in a very similar layout to the rest of the book, so I wasn’t really sure when I was going from one theme to another. Nevertheless, the actual poetry that’s involved in this collection is fantastic, a fun mix of classical and contemporary poetry that’s all about celebrating the life we live. Better still, it looks great on your shelves when you’ve finished reading it. So go get it!
