Terry Deary – Savage Stone Age

This isn’t the best of the Horrible Histories books, but then I am a little jaded by now considering I’ve been working my way through the box set. Still, the Stone Age was interesting enough, it’s just that I’m more of a fan of the Romans, the Vikings and the Middle Ages.

What I did like about this one is that there was a lot of information about archaeology in there, and I think it did a good job of encouraging kids to take up the profession. I always wanted to be an archaeologist as a kid and this book reminded me why, like watching an episode of Time Team. I bet it’s a lot of hard work though, so read this instead.

Terry Deary – Groovy Greeks

I picked up a box set of the Horrible Histories books and so I’ve been reading through a bunch of them, which has started to make me feel a little jaded. This one gave me my mojo back though, and it took me by surprise because I’ve never been particularly keen on the Greeks. I’ve always preferred the Romans, Vikings and Egyptians.

The only thing that I will say is that Deary presented Archimedesdeath ray as proven historical fact, but I watch Mythbusters and I’m pretty sure they proved that it wasn’t possible. But then these books have been around for a while and so perhaps that was the latest thinking at the time. Other than that though, I thought this was pretty good!
