I’m not sure where to start with this book, because I don’t feel as though much of it sank in. Even though it’s only a couple of years old, I feel as though all of the ideas that the authors talk about are pretty much common sense, and the sort of thing that’s already being espoused by so many people that it’s not really anything new.
That said, there’s a lot in here about how companies need to reprioritise their way of working, and how marketing isn’t just about sharing a message – you need to make your company stand for something, and then make sure that’s reflected throughout the organisation.
There are also some interesting tips and tricks about inbound marketing here, which is what I’m all about when it comes to my approach to marketing. Sure, there was nothing necessarily new to me, but there were plenty of facts, stats and case studies that basically helped me to confirm in my head that my approach is right. And I might even be able to use some of them in future pitch documents and presentations, to back me up.
Overall then, if you work in digital or social media marketing, or if you want to find out more about the field, this is a decent enough place to start. But there are also better ones on the market – do some shopping around before you commit yourself.
