Title: Frankenstein According to Spike Milligan

Author: Spike Milligan

Type: Fiction

Page Count: 132

Rating: 4/5

This book is literally Spike Milligan’s take on Frankenstein, essentially a retelling that’s told in his unique brand of humour. Because of that, you’re probably going to want to read Mary Shelley’s original before you read this one, though I suppose it isn’t mandatory.

Milligan’s humour is farcical and funny, at least to me, and I’m also a pretty big Frankenstein fan and so I thought I should go ahead and dive in. It’s strange, as you might expect, but it’s also pretty good. If you’re into the Mel Brooks style of comedy horror, you’re probably going to like it. It certainly made me laugh a few times.

Oli Jacobs – Kirk Sandblaster vs Protocol 9 | Review

Title: Kirk Sandblaster vs Protocol 9

Author: Oli Jacobs

Type: Fiction

Page Count: 136

Rating: 3.5/5

I’ve been following Oli’s career for a while now and so it was a pleasure to pick this up so close to its release, especially because I’ve read the rest of the series. And it didn’t disappoint, delivering further sci-fi comedy goodness.

What I particularly liked about this book was that it felt so topical and relevant. It basically deals with tech and artificial intelligence, as well as what might happen if it were to rebel against us. Elon Musk would be loving it.

So yeah, obviously I would recommend this one. I’d just recommend reading the rest of the series first if you can, though they also work okay as standalones.
