This here is a short but sweet little sci-fi novel that was written shortly before Left Hand of Darkness and covers some similar themes. I haven’t got to that one yet though, and so I can only judge this as a standalone.
It was a pretty decent little sci-fi novel and I enjoyed my time with it, although it was all over pretty quickly. It also used a trope that I’m not particularly keen on, with the main character suffering from amnesia. But I guess that was kind of required for the story itself to work.
Other than that, I liked what it had to say on the subject of identity, especially within a larger group. It was ahead of its time in that respect, pushing the reader to re-examine how they treat people who look different to them.
