Little Face is another one of Hannah’s thrillers, which I think is why it only got three out of five from me. Hannah is a competent thriller writer, though not necessarily the best in the business, but I just don’t tend to find thrillers particularly… well, thrilling.

In this one, a woman gives birth via a caesarean and then once she arrives home, she claims that the baby isn’t hers and that someone has swapped it out. It’s not entirely clear why that might have happened, and so the rest of the book is kind of dedicated to understanding that.

The problem that I had is that the main character was kind of annoying, and so even when she was being abused by her husband, I was more bothered by the scenario rather than the fact that it was happening to her specifically. There’s also a big twist at the end that I saw coming after about the first thirty pages, although perhaps that’s just because I’m a writer myself.

I mean, I’d say that this was okay, but that’s about as far as I can go with it. I think for me, the problem was that I never actually fell into the story, and so I wasn’t particularly engaged. When that happens, the story line is less gripping and the characterisation doesn’t matter because I’m just reading to get to the end, rather than because I’m loving the story.

With Hannah, I plan to eventually read everything that she’s ever written, and so I’m glad that I ticked this one off because it takes me one step closer to that. I do think that it’s probably the weakest one of her books that I’ve read so far though, and it’s also one of several that have felt a little bit too long for me, which is kind of weird when you consider that it was only 362 pages.

It’s up to you whether you feel the need to go and read this one, just try not to get your hopes up.
