I have mixed feelings about this because while it was good, it wasn’t great, and that was what I was expecting. It even had a little bit of insta-love in there, which felt kind of out of place in the rest of the story. Technically, it happened twice.
Still, it is a great example of a contemporary novel with a classical feel, and books like those are rare. It’s also pretty short and super easy to read, so it’s worth picking up just to see what the fuss is about. As for the translation, I was pretty happy with the quality and it didn’t feel as though anything was lost in translation, although who can really tell?
All in all, I thought this was okay but it wasn’t great, not as good as people make it out to be. I’m still glad I read it, but it just felt kind of artificial to me, as though it was written to follow a formula.
