I would say that this is long-awaited, but that’s not really the case for me. It’s more a case of fortunate timing. I’ve been reading a lot of Jacobs’ stuff of late and I caught up with the Kirk Sandblaster books just a couple of months ago. In fact, this book was out as an ebook then, but it’s only recently that it came out as a physical book.

What’s interesting to me is that Jacobs’ writing has continued to progress from book to book and that you can see him evolve if you read through the series. For some reason, I ended up reading it out of order and so a few of the jokes were lost on me until I looked back at them with hindsight, but I didn’t mind that. It was still a lot of fun and a genuine pleasure to read.

You also shouldn’t let that put you off, because if you’re yet to discover the wacky universe of Kirk Sandblaster then you don’t need to start at the beginning and you can always pick this one up. It’s basically comic space fantasy with a Douglas Adams vibe and some added silliness, as well as some memorable characters. Enjoy it.
