This book was interesting because it took a look at childhood imaginary friends but then took the concept further. It’s kind of unclear the extent to which Chocky has an influence on his/her host, or even what its preferred pronouns are. In fact, it was kind of forward-thinking in the way that it covered that in the first place.
I’m pleased to say that I enjoyed this one, although it was shorter than it could have been. That meant that it ended up feeling as though not a huge amount had happened, although there was plenty of time along the way for us to think about the implications of what’s going on.
It’s also more of a psychological and domestic drama than anything else, which isn’t usually for me. But it worked here and showed that Wyndham is a boss.
