This is pretty much the perfect classic to pick up if you’ve historically been intimidated by them. It’s a touching novel about friendships, social status, hopelessness and the rat race, and the characters feel refreshingly honest considering they’re in a classic.
The only problem that I had was the casual use of “the n-word”, although I suppose it’s a product of its times. But I’m prepared to overlook that as long as it’s not a fundamental part of the story, which it isn’t here. It’s just a fantastic, short classic. Excellent.
