This book was interesting because it was a little bit like a science fiction detective novel, but with some typical Asimovian grittiness. It’s also a part of his robots series, and so because of that it takes a deep look at the three laws of robotics and the different ways in which they can be applied. I always find that interesting because of just how influential Asimov’s laws went on to be.
At the same time, you get to see what life is like in a sort of futuristic, semi-dystopian society, and a lot of the story itself follows the relationships between a single family, which allowed Asimov to do some interesting stuff too. In fact, the only reason that I didn’t fully enjoy this one was the fact that the print on the damn thing was so small that it gave me a headache to read it.
Other than that, it was a well-written space mystery about robots with a satisfying ending that I didn’t see coming, although it seems obvious in hindsight. What more could you ask for from a book?
