This lough-out-loud piece of genius is more of a memoir than an autobiography, because while it does loosely follow the thread of Carrie Fisher’s life, it skips from one anecdote to another instead of progressing strictly linearly. It’s as manic of a read as she was, and that makes a lot of sense. From what I understand, it was also based upon a one-woman show that she carried out.

It should go without saying that it was impossible for me to read this without the knowledge that Fisher had passed away before I picked it up. That made it almost bittersweet, but the interesting thing is that even though Fisher had her struggles with depression and substance abuse, she still seemed to have a genuine love for life. That comes across as much in this book as it must have done on stage.
