I first picked this up as a kid and didn’t really like it – in fact, I don’t think I ever finished it. But I recently picked up a box set of the Narnia books and so I decided to work my way through them all. The good thing about that is that the series started with The Magician’s Nephew because it runs in chronological order as opposed to publication order, and that allowed me to ease myself in by picking up something I’d never read before.
This one feels as though it’s lost a little bit of steam, but it also has Edmund in it as a character and I can’t stand the dude. Every time the narrative was focusing on him, I was kind of hoping he’d fall into a pit and die. Alas, he didn’t, but there are plenty more books to go, right?
