Title: Prelude to Space
Author: Arthur C. Clarke
Type: Fiction
Page Count/Review Word Count: 160
Rating: 3.5/5
This book is interesting because it was written in the 1940s but has some surprisingly prescient observations, both within the novel and in its introduction. For example, in the 1961 introduction, Clarke says that his prediction of a lunar landing in 1978 was too conservative and that we could expect one before then.
It’s a pretty short and sweet little read, but that doesn’t mean that it’s one to overlook. The characterisation is okay and the story line is top notch, but the most interesting stuff here is the way in which Clarke predicts the future. He even essentially creates the concept of satellite technology.
All of that makes this one an important read to science fiction fans, and the only thing I didn’t like about this one was the fact that my edition was falling apart.
