This was a pretty good read, even if I did have to struggle through a couple of hundred pages of tiny print. It’s essentially a short story collection with four Hercule Poirot stories in, and I’ve always thought that Christie does a great job in the medium of short fiction. It’s just a shame that Poirot does my head in and makes me want to attack him and his moustache with a hedge trimmer.
I think my favourite of the stories in this collection was Murder in the Mews, the title story, although I also thought Dead Man’s Mirror was pretty good. Triangle at Rhodes was the weakest for me, but it was also the shortest story of the lot and so perhaps that’s why. And then the final story was The Incredible Theft, which was mainly notable because it follows the theft of some plans of a top secret bomber plane.
All in all, it was a pretty good read and I’d recommend it for sure.
