I was looking forward to getting to this one because I know that Hannah Tay is a big fan of it adn that it’s one of her favourite books. I don’t think it would make it into my own top ten, but it was pretty good and it’s definitely one of Christie’s better ones. And I’m not just saying that because Ariadne Oliver makes an appearance here.
The good news with this is that you don’t need to read this at Hallowe’en because while it is the backdrop of the story, it doesn’t play a particularly large part in the plot. We follow Oliver investigating a murder with Poirot after a young girl is drowned, and actually I think that this is one of the more brutal Christie books, at least when it comes to who the victims are.
All in all, this was a decent offering and if you’re a fan of her work already, you’re going to enjoy this. But it might not be the best place to start.
