Macbeth, also called the Scottish play, is my second favourite Shakespeare play behind Romeo and Juliet. It’s where we experience all sorts of iconic elements of Shakespeare, from the three witches to the ghosts and the fall from grace of the titular character.
It’s also easy enough to follow, which makes it a pleasurable experience for the reader. I haven’t been lucky enough to ever see a performance of this on the stage, but I’d love to – it strikes me as the sort of play that would be even better on the stage than in the printed form, although it was certainly also a lot of fun to read as well.
