Cyprian Ekwensi – Glittering City

Out of all of the Penguin Mini Moderns that I’ve read so far, this one feels the most complete. Set in Lagos, Nigeria, we follow the life of Fussy Joe, a musician who lives life to the full. I enjoyed it.

Chinua Achebe – Africa’s Tarnished Name

This is all about Achebe’s Africa and it’s therefore a fascinating snapshot of a developing continent. I particularly liked the way the author talked about Nigeria not as a mother or a father but as a child.
