You probably haven’t heard of Eddie Bowley (yet), but it won’t be long until you do. He’s the creator of Edd Egg, a popular animation show on YouTube, and the person behind the Essex Lion’s Twitter account.
Scumm is Eddie’s first novel, written during NaNoWriMo 2011, a surrealistic tale of murder and detection set in an alternate reality based upon computer games. It’d have to be, with characters like Officer [text-missing] and Nam, the code-addicted hobo.
Considering it took Bowley just 28 days to write it and two more to edit it together and design the artwork, Scumm is quite frankly phenomenal. A big well done to Bowley, then.
As for the title? I can’t help wondering whether it’s a subtle nod to both the characters and to the virtual machine software designed to play old computer games. Perhaps only Bowley himself can answer that.
