It’s a good job that this is political satire because otherwise it would quite frankly be terrifying. Swift’s “modest” proposal is to solve the Irish potato famine by eating children. It made me laugh, though.

Disclaimer: While I aim to be unbiased, I received a copy of this for free to review.

I read and reviewed the first book in this series a while back, after Liz got in touch with me and asked me if I’d be interested in taking a look at it. She sent me a copy, I read it and loved it, and she remembered me. Then, when this – the second book in the series – was released, she got in touch with me to ask if I’d like to continue the adventure.

I’m glad that I accepted, and now I can’t wait for the third and final book, although I also don’t want it to end. Basically, it’s set in our own world and follows the stories of the remnants of the celtic druids, still alive today and with a fierce feud causing all sorts of problems between the Welsh and the Irish.

There’s a little big of magic, but there’s also a little bit of modern technology, and the mix is done very well – the characters are also all three-dimensional and memorable, and you’ll get to see a lot of familiar faces. A lot of people die, by the way, so you’d better keep your fingers crossed.

Now, as much as I enjoyed the first book in the series, I feel like Liz has really hit her stride here in the second – because the scene has already been set, so to speak, the book can be packed full of action, and I found myself sucked in after the first dozen pages. That’s not to say that you won’t be able to enjoy it if you haven’t read the first book – it would still work well as a standalone, although I would recommend reading them in order if you can.

And I would recommend reading them. Liz has surprised me twice, now – both times, her work has been better than I expected. I just hope she keeps on writing after the Hiraeth trilogy is over. I expect she’ll keep me updated!
